The composition of this painting was taken from one done by Esteban Murillo in the 1500s. Murillo did several depictions of the simple shepherds, come to pay their respects to the infant Christ. In this painting, two of our homeless friends who died during 2016 are among the shepherds. It seems appropriate that our friends, the outcasts on the margin of society, would be among the humble called to adore our Lord.
